Prelude:
I understand this blog used to consist of my travels and I had originally been inspired to use it as a vessel to spew my witty humor along with some helpful travel trips. I hate to break it to you but unfortunately due to a change in income status, I simply am not traveling as much as I used to. So you’re stuck with what I perceive to be my witty observations on life. Take this time to let that sink in, and if it's not for you, go absorb another Tik Tok, you’ve been warned.
Add Some Flavor to Who You Are
How do you answer the phone? Are you a “hello?” A “Hey” (ew)? Or what about a “Hey, how’s it going?” (SOOO vanilla right?) Every now and then I like to toss in a little “Go for Drew,” but that’s only with a close friend or a spam caller who I care to amuse.
Regardless, these are all little quirks, little bits of flavor one adds to the complex metaphorical pizza of who they are. And well, recently I made the conscious decision to add my own particular umami flavor to my personality, I have become a “baby,” guy.
I know, I know. It’s a lot in the year of our lord 2026. Being a guy who answers the phone “what’s up baby how you doin?” Or telling his best friend, “Damn that’s a nice shirt baby, that new?” Usually best utilized in the singular form, but I haven’t been shy to address a group of people, “how we doin babies? Good to see you!”
Life is sad, it's upsetting, regularly dull, constantly monotonous, why not spice it up baby? Now I’m not saying you HAVE to become a baby guy, or gal, but if you want… go for it! It’s not quite New Years resolution season yet but, are there little ways can you make your life a bit more… fun? Entertaining? Humorous? We’re all getting bogged down by literally everything, let’s make it fun, or at least fun for ourselves? (All while keeping in mind time and a place for the utilization of "baby," and especially knowing your audience).
I mentioned that becoming a “baby” guy was a conscious decision I made, recently I’ve made a subconscious flavor addition to the complex metaphorical pizza that I am and … I’ve started to wink … and point (yes… usually with a finger gun as well). I’m really not sure how this happened people, but it did; and I’m doing it and I fear I may not be stopping anytime soon.
Today I did it to a patient and their family. It was in good jest, I made a fairly humorous joke referring to how I was going to do MY job, and he just had to do HIS job and remember to breathe. And as that left my mouth, I winked, and finger gun pointed at his oxygen saturation (which was less than ideal at the time). It went over well (obviously, that's hilarious).
Shortly after work I dashed to get my haircut by my beloved barber who I have blogged about in the past, and in the midst of our departing salutations, I finger gun pointed, winked, and said something along the lines of “I’ll be seeing you more often,” referring to how my receding hairline and overall progression into Pitbull territory will be requiring better upkeep in the near future.
In good faith I can’t campaign on the platform of using “baby” more or winking and lord knows the finger gun point goes over in only select situations with special individuals, but what I can endorse is adding some flavor to who you are, not for others, but for yourself. Laugh at and laugh with yourself.
Think about it like this, do you have an inside joke that you like to play with yourself, to the only audience being yourself? A semi humorous signature to your personal (or work) email? Switching the way your friend's toilet paper hangs every time you use their facilities? Being the fun aunt or uncle who always gets their nieces and nephews or friends kids the loudest toys possible? It doesn’t have to be funny to everyone, it just has to be funny to you. For another IRL example, when I was a senior in high school, when I still wore boxers, I decided to prank FUTURE Drew and unbutton every pair of dirty boxers before I put them in the laundry, so that FUTURE Drew would put on a pair of washed boxers after showering, only to find that he had to button them back up. Hilarious! Future Drew hated it immediately, but then chuckled shortly there after. Was this all some weird only child stuff I did and still do? Maybe? Who's to say or care?
Either way, take it from me baby, everyday boring ass depressing ass life gets a little bit more fun when your complex metaphorical pizza gets a little spice added to it *finger gun points and winks at you*
